Each year, Union Public
Service Commission (UPSC) conducts an examination to recruit candidates for
different types of Civil Services posts like IAS- Indian Administrative
Service, IFS- Indian Foreign Service, IRS- Indian Revenue Service any many
more.
The Exam contains the below
given parts-
(i) Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT)
(ii) Civil Services Main
Examination
(iii) Personality Test
The Civil Services Aptitude
Test or commonly known as CSAT includes two papers and each paper carries a
total of 200 marks. Like any other regular competitive exam, this exam also
contains objective type of questions and includes syllabus like General
Awareness, Current Affairs of the World, History of India, World Geography,
Social and Economic Development, Environmental Issues or Ecology, General
Science and Technology, Logical Aptitude and reasoning, Analytic ability as
well as English language which basically includes comprehension skills.
Once a student is able to
crack the Civil Services Aptitude Test, he or she is not qualified to appear
for the Main Examination.
So now, The Civil Services
Main Examination consists total of nine papers. After the CSAT objectives,
mains carry questions of descriptive type. These questions are typically
intended to assess the overall intellectual abilities and knowledge of the
aspirant.
This is further completed
by a Personality Test, which is an interview conducted to assess the
candidate's personality in terms of his intelligence level, abilities, traits,
values etc.
It is said that Civil
Services Examination is one of the most difficult and sought after competitive
